Since, 2004, Indian Idol has been winning everyone’s hearts and has become one of the most-watched singing reality shows in India. Indian Idol was inspired by the popular show “American Idol” which has also been a great launching platform for talented singers who are searching for a chance. Since its start, the show has gained immense popularity as we get to see a contestant’s journey to stardom. Indian Idol is not just about singing but also the overall personality of the contestant. Monali Thakur, Neha Kakkar, Abhijeet Sawant, and Salman Ali are some of the popular names of Indian playback singing.

Indian Idol Winners List Season 1 to 13

Here is the list of Indian Idol winners in all of the 13 seasons, with their prize money, runner-up, and their whereabouts.

Rishi Singh – Indian Idol Season 13 Winner

The winner of Indian Idol season 13 was Rishi Singh from Ayodhya and Debosmita Roy was runner up. Rishi Singh won a Rs 25 Lakh prize and the latest Brezza Car. Indian Idol 13’s auditions started in July 2022 and the Grand finale was on 2nd April 2023.

Pawandeep Rajan – Indian Idol Season 12 Winner

Indian Idol 12 started with 15 contestants in November 2020. 26-year-old Pawandeep Rajan won the show and made his people from Uttarakhand proud. Pawandeep Rajan’s father, Suresh Rajan is also a singer and signs in various functions. Besides singing he also plays instruments like Piano, Dholak, Guitar, Keyboard and table.

Other top 5 contestants were: –

Sunny Hindustani – Indian Idol Season 11 Winner

Indian Idol 11’s winner has a very unique journey from polishing shoes at Bhatinda’s Railway station to winning the finale of Indian Idol 11. His voice gained a lot of appreciation in public and therefore he got a lot of votes. He even signed a contract with Shankar Ehsaan Loy.

Runners-up: Ankona Mukherjee and Rohit Shyam Raut

Prize: ₹25 lakh and Tata Altroz car

Salman Ali – Indian Idol Season 10 Winner

Salman Ali became the Indian Idol 10’s winner and won everyone’s hearts with his raw and unique voice. He got Rs 25 Lakh and a Datsun Go car as a prize. He even participated in Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L’il Champs and became the runner-up in 2011.

After his win, he debuted with the song ‘Sab Badhiya -in Bollywood movie Sui Dhaga in 2018. We have recently seen him as one of the mentors in Superstar Singer.

Prize: ₹25 lakh and Datsun Go car

LV Revanth – Indian Idol Season 9 Winner

Revanth won the 9th season of Indian Idol. This famous and talented singer had already participated in 11 singing reality shows before participating in Indian Idol 9.

After his win in Indian Idol 9, he got to sing in more than 200 Telugu and Kannada movies. His song in Baahubali: The Beginning is also very popular.

Runners-up: PVNS Rohit and Khuda Baksh

Ananya Sritam Nanda – Indian Idol Season 8 Winner

Indian Idol 8 was called Indian Idol Junior Season 2 and was for junior singers. Ananya Sritam Nanda is from Bubneshwar girl. She got Rs 10 Lakh after winning the trophy and got to sign a contract to work with Universal Music India for two years. She also participated in the Rising Star singing reality show and was one of the top 5 contestants.

She sang a few popular songs in Bollywood like ‘Mausam Mastana’ and one of the songs in ‘M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story’.

Runners-up: Nahid Afrin and Nithyashree Venkataramanan

Anjana Padmanabhan – Indian Idol Season 7 Winner

The first Indian Idol Junior was won by Anjana Padmanabhan. She ruled everyone’s heart and got so many votes with her extraordinary voice. Judges were very impressed with her singing.

Anjana learnt Carnatic music learned music at a very young age and even participated in the Super Singer 3, Star Vijay TV show where she didn’t win but was among the top 7 contestants.

Recently we saw her in Star Plus’s singing reality show ‘Taare Zameen Par’. Anjana was even selected by UNICEF India to feature in a campaign for child rights during COVID-19.

Runners-up: Anmol Jaswal and Debanjana Karmakar

Prize: Rs. 25 lakh and a Nissan Micra Car

Vipul Mehta – Indian Idol Season 6 Winner

Indian Idol Season 6 was won by Vipul Mehta who had no singing background and started learning singing quite early when he was 8. He was the runner-up in another singing reality show ‘Amul Star Voice of India 2’.

He collaborated with other Indian Idol contestants and made the album Fabulous Four. He has been working as a playback singer in various albums and movies like Vande Mataram, Pukaar, Hello Namaste Sat Sri Akal and many more.

Runners-up: Amitabh Narayan and Amit Kumar

Prize: Rs 50 lakh, a Suzuki Hayate bike, a Nissan Micra car, and Rs 3 lakh from Max Life Insurance.

Sreerama Chandra Mynampati – Indian Idol Season 5 Winner

Sreerama was the first winner who belonged to South India. This season was hosted by Abhijeet Sawant who won the first Indian Idol season. Indian Idol season 5 was remarked as one of the most entertaining seasons of Indian Idol by Sh. Amitabh Bachan.

He sang various hit songs like ‘Shubhaanallah’ in Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, ‘Allah Duhaai Hai’ from Race 3 and many more. He even won the best music debut award in GIMA 2011 for his song Rehnuma.

Runners-up: Rakesh Maini and Bhoomi Trivedi

Sourabhee Debbarma – Indian Idol Season 4 Winner

The Indian Idol 4 winner was the first female to win the Indian Idol Season. Sourabhee is from Tripura and won everyone’s hearts with her beautiful voice and smile. She even has a Guinness World Record for singing for 4.5 minutes in an upside-down position.

She even won the contract for her first album ‘Meharbaan’ and did a lot of national as well as international shows. She even became a judge for a singing reality show ‘Voice of North East.’ She organised a webinar to teach people how to live stress-free and focused lives during a pandemic.

Runners-up: Torsha Sarkar and Kapil Thapa

Prize: ₹ 1 crore and TATA Winger

Prashant Tamang – Indian Idol Season 3 Winner

The winner of Indian Idol 3 was Prashant Tamang who was the first contestant from North East to win Indian Idol Seasons. He even released an album Dhanyavad to thank his family and friends for their support throughout his journey. People from the East took inspiration from him. It was even said that after his win, the people of Darjeeling protested for a separate state of Gorkhaland. His votes were 10 times more than the votes for Amit Sana as per the media.

You can see him now as an actor, commentator and host.

Prize: Rs 1 crore and Maruti Suzuki SX4

Sandeep Acharya – Indian Idol Season 2 Winner

Following the huge success of the first season of Indian Idol’s first season, Season 2 premiered with excitement and anticipation. Some of the very talented singers like Neha Kakkar and Monali Thakur participated in the show. Though they didn’t win the show, now they’re very famous singers in Bollywood. Indian Idol Season 2 was won by Sandeep Acharya from Rajasthan. He didn’t have a very great singing career later on and sang a few Rajasthani and Bollywood songs. In 2013, he died because of Jaundice which shocked everyone.

Runners-up: N. C. Karunya and Anuj Sharma

Prize: ₹1 crore and Maruti Baleno car

Abhijeet Sawant – Indian Idol Season 1 Winner

Abhijeet Sawant is the first Indian Idol winner whose ‘Mohabbatein Lutaunga’ is a very famous song. Not just Indian Idol, he even won the 3rd position in the Asian Idol contest which took place in Jakarta. He has sung many Bollywood movie songs after his win. In this season, Rahul Vaidya also became a well-known participant.

Abhijeet even joined Shiv Sena and is currently inactive in Politics. Not just politics, he even tried his hand at acting in the movie Lottery, participated in Nach Baliye and hosted Indian Idol Season 5. 

Other popular runner-ups are Rahul Vaidya and Amit Sana.
